To judge or not to judge?

Jan 25, 2026    Frank Villarreal

This message explains that Scripture does not forbid all judgment, but condemns hypocritical, harsh, and slanderous judgment that elevates oneself above others and God’s law. While believers naturally make judgments and are called to exercise discernment—especially regarding doctrine, character, and restoring others caught in sin—this must be done with humility, wisdom, and love. James and Jesus warn that judging with condemnation or speaking evil against others violates the command to love our neighbor and places us in God’s role as Judge. True biblical judgment aims at truth, discernment, and restoration, not pride, gossip, or self-righteousness.
