When words lose their weight

Mar 8, 2026    Frank Villarreal

This sermon teaches that people often add phrases like “I swear” or “I promise” because simple honesty has been weakened by broken promises and lack of integrity. Drawing from Epistle of James 5:12 and Gospel of Matthew 5:33–37, it explains that God calls believers to such deep integrity that a simple “yes” or “no” is trustworthy without extra oaths. The message warns that careless promises can slowly damage relationships, families, and faith, just like a small crack that eventually shatters a windshield. Ultimately, Christians are called to live with radical integrity, deliberate simplicity, and serious accountability so that their lives—not decorated words—prove their faith and rebuild trust in their homes, church, and community.
